Originally, castile soap was an olive oil based soap made in the Castile region of Spain. Today, “castile” refers to any soap that is made from vegetable oil rather than animal fat and synthetic substances. Liquid castile soap is natural, biodegradable, and versatile product with numerous effective applications. I know 12 great uses for castile soap, are there any I missed? I would love to hear your ideas!

1.	Hand soap and everyday body-washing. Get wet and pour 2-3 drops of soap onto hands or washcloth. Lather up, scrub down, rinse off, and tingle fresh and clean.

2.	Shampoo

Castile soap shampoo recipe 1:

1/4 cup liquid castile soap

1/4 cup hot water

1/2 tsp olive, grapeseed or jojoba oil

~5 drops essential oil of your choice

Dissolve the soap in the hot water. Stir in the oils. Enjoy your new natural shampoo.

Castile soap shampoo recipe 2:

1/4 cup liquid castile soap

1 beaten egg

1 tsp olive, grapeseed or jojoba oil

1 tsp lemon juice

Whip until smooth. Use immediately and put any leftovers into the refrigerator and use the next day or two.

3. Baby bath
Pour 1/4 cup of liquid castile soap in running water for a natural, gentle, and safe baby bath. As with any baby wash, be sure to keep it out of baby eyes.

4.	Bubble bath
Luxurious castile soap bubble bath recipe:

1/2 – 1 cup liquid castile soap

5-8 drops essential oil of your choice

2 ounces of coconut oil

Pour the bubble bath mix into the running bath water. Relax!

5. Shaving

6. Pet shampoo

7. Laundry
Use 1/4 cup to 1/3 cup for one regular load. Adding a dash of baking soda makes it even better.

8. Household cleaner

1 part castille soap to 40 parts water for light cleaning, 1 part castille soap to 10 parts water for heavy duty cleaning.

9. Dishwashing detergent
Natural automatic dishwasher detergent recipe:

1/2 cup liquid castile soap

1/2 cup water

1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

1/2 cup white vinegar

Blend all ingredients together. Store in a squirt top bottle. Use 2 tablespoons per load of dishes, shake well before use.

10. Veggie/fruit wash

11. Toothpaste. I’ve heard that pure liquid castile soap can be used for brushing your teeth! Has anyone tried this?

12. Backpacking. Because castile soap is so versatile and biodegradable you can take one small bottle with you and use it for everything without fouling up the environment.

Humans age in seven basic ways, he says, all of which can be averted.

The FDA allows all sorts of chemicals to be used in these products, including chemicals that are known carcinogens and that are linked to developmental/reproductive toxicity, nervous system disorders, allergies/immunotoxicity, liver failure, etc.

Think twice about what you’re rubbing into your skin or scalp if your products include any of the following ingredients:

1. Cocoamide DEA (diethylalomine) TEA, MEA,– detergent in most shampoos, moisturizers and more Studies also show that DEAs (including cocamide DEA) directly inhibits fetal brain development in laboratory studies by blocking the absorption of choline, a nutrient required for brain development and maintenance.

2. Propilene Glycol - industrial antifreeze – in deodorant, shampoos, shaving gels, and moisturizers.

3. Sodium lauryl sulfate and flouride garage floor cleansers, detergents – in shampoos and toothpastes.

4. Benzaldehyde (in perfume, cologne, hairspray, laundry bleach, deodorants, detergent, Vaseline lotion, shaving cream, shampoo, bar soap, dishwasher detergent).

Narcotic

Sensitizer

Local anesthetic

CNS depressant

Irritates the mouth, throat, eyes, skin, lungs and GI tract

Causes nausea and abdominal pain

May cause kidney damage

Carcinogenic

Linked to pancreatic cancer

Can be absorbed through the skin causing systemic effects

Are you sure that organic cosmetics is safer than the conventional varieties? Not necessarily. When shopping for organic cosmetics there are specific ingredients that should not be on the label. These are:

11. Grapefruit Seed Extract. It derives its antimicrobial properties not from grapefruit seed, but from toxic chemicals, primarily benzethonium chloride, and to a lesser extent from triclosan and parabens.

12. Cocamidopropyl Betaine. It is toxic to the immune system and can cause dermatitis and other allergic reactions.

13. Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein. Anytime you see something that is hydrolyzed there is a hidden source of MSG that is absorbed into your bloodstream when it comes in contact with your skin.

14. PEG – Studies have shown that any ingredient that contains PEG in its name can be contaminated with the cancer-causing chemical 1,4-dioxane.

Unfortunately, these hazardous chemicals are going to remain quite legal in the use of personal care products for many years to come, as manufactures care about their convenience and profit, not about your health. But you do not have to expose yourself to toxic chemicals! Protect yourself by learning the truth about the products that you use (you can find a lot of useful info at Cosmeticsdatabase), and switch to products made with safer ingredients.

The majority of us spend most of our day in the office. Sitting for prolonged periods can lead to excess fat storage, weaken muscles, neck and back problems, a depressed mood, and a lack of energy. You may not want to turn your office into a mini gym, but there are exercises you can do sitting at your desk (reading, talking on the phone, etc.). They will help you stay fit, relieve tension and stress, keep your energy up and make you more alert.

Exercise 1: Exercise for shoulders, chest, upper back and arm muscles
With your hand, take edge of a table and strain the hand, like you are trying to lift the table. When your muscles get tired, repeat the exercise with your other hand.

Exercise 2: Exercise for shoulders, chest, upper back and arm muscles
Put your hand on the table, palm down. Press down as strongly as you can, and keep your strain as long as you can. Repeat the exercise with your other hand.
Exercises 1 and 2 can be done with your both hands at the same time.

Exercise 3: Exercise for shoulders, chest, upper back and arm muscles
Put your right hand on the table, palm down. Put your left hand under the tabletop, palm up. Press your right hand down as strongly as you can, and keep your strain as long as you can. Simultaneously, with the same effort, press your left hand up as strongly as you can, and keep your strain as long as you can. When your muscles get tired, change your hands and repeat the exercise.

Exercise 4: Exercise for hips and belly
Sitting on the edge of your chair, raise your straight leg some inches above the floor, and hold it for a few minutes. Raise the leg higher – it will make the exercise more effective. When your muscles get tired, change your leg and repeat the exercise.

Exercise 5: Exercise for the whole body
Sitting on the edge of your chair, and holding on to the edge of the table, raise straight legs. Hold them as high as it is convenient for you for as long as you can.

Exercise 6: Exercise for the whole body
Put your right hand on the outer side of you right knee. Press on your knee as strongly as you can, like you are trying to move it toward your left leg. At the same time, strain your right leg to counteract your hand’s pressure. When your muscles get tired, repeat the exercise with your other hand and leg.
This exercise can be done for both sides simultaneously.

Exercise 7: Exercise for the whole body
Put your right hand on the inner side of you right knee. Press on your knee as strongly as you can, like you are trying to move it away from your left leg. At the same time, strain your right leg like you are trying to move it toward your left leg. When your muscles get tired, repeat the exercise with your other hand and leg.
This exercise can be done for both sides simultaneously.

Exercise 8: Exercise for arms, chest, and abs
Put your right hand on you right knee, and press on your knee down as strongly as you can. At the same time, strain your right leg and try to counteract your hand’s pressure raising your knee. When your muscles get tired, repeat the exercise with your other hand and leg.
This exercise can be done with both hands and legs at the same time.

Exercise 9: Exercise for arms and back
Take your right wrist with your left hand and the pull your hands in the opposite directions. When your muscles get tired, change your hands and repeat the exercise.

Exercise 9: Exercise for arms and back
As in the previous exercise, take your right wrist with your left hand. Now, with your left hand, pull your right hand down. Strain your right hand to counteract the left hands’ strength. When your muscles get tired, change your hands and repeat the exercise.

Exercise 10: Exercise for arms, shoulders, and back
Take side edges of your chair with your hands. Pull up as strongly as you can for as long as you can.

Exercise 11: Exercise for arms, shoulders, and chest
Put your hands on the tabletop. Make a fist with your left hand, and set it against your right palm. Press the hands firmly against each other.
Exercise 12: Exercise for arms, shoulders, and chest
Lower your hands, join your palms (fingers pointing down) and press them firmly against each other, for as long as you can. Then, repeat the exercises with fingers pointing up.

Exercise 13: Exercise for abs and legs
Raise your feet above the floor, couple them together, and pull in the opposite directions, till your muscles get tired.

Exercise 14: Exercise for abs and legs

Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania are working on LED tattoos. These are flexible thin silicon electronic circuits on silk substrates that can make your skin a screen. The circuits are just about 1 millimeter long and 250 nanometers thick. The silk keeps them in place, molding to the shape of the skin when saline solution is added. Over time, the silk dissolves away inside the body, leaving just the electronics behind. These LED tattoos could be hooked up to any kind of electronic device (wanna watch TV on your arm? have a built-in GPS or PDA?), even to those inside the body, such as blood-sugar sensors or neurodevices. In fact, the possible uses seem almost endless… And you can switch is off whenever you wish.

In this Philips Design Probe, human body is explored as a platform for electronics and interactive skin technology. Stimulated by touch, an electronic tattoo traverses across the landscape of body, navigated by desire:

Positions of acne on face can tell if something wrong happens with your internal organs:

Acne on forehead may be related to digestive system, urinary system, or adrenal gland.

Acne between eyebrows may be related to liver or problem with Lactose digestion.

Acne around eyes may be related to allergy. This kind of acne may also be caused by cosmetics or eyeglasses.

Acne on cheeks may be related to problem with lung, digestive system, gum or teeth.

Acne on temples may be related to problem with liver or gallbladder.

Acne on ears may be related to problem with kidney. This kind of acne may also be caused by your hair-care products or using cellphone for a long time.

Acne on nose or above lip may be related to problem with heart or genitourinary system.

Acne on chin may be related to problem with ovary or hormonal imbalance.

Usually, spots on one side of your face tell about problems with an internal organ on the opposite side. For example, acne on right side of a chin may be related to inflammation of a left ovary.
